Work at Home - best increased fuel costs

Work at Home - best increased fuel costs

Yesterday I heard the news which is all too common these days and caused me to reflect on why starting a home based business - so I could work at home- is such a good idea - the price of petrol has just gone up AGAIN!

There's no doubt that as the world changes, populations increase, demands for fossil fuels and, power, water and all the other necessities of life increase the cost of living causing many professional and hourly-paid workers to give serious consideration to work at home. Now, perhaps more than ever before to work at home is becoming a very real choice for the average 'joe' struggling to keep pace with the torrent of increased living costs. Of course, to a large extent it all depends on the "comfort level" experienced.
What I mean by that is if I'm a sales executive enjoying a better-than average salary, operating and having private use of a company car, mobile phone, medical protection plan etc. giving that up to work at home might just be a pipe dream.

However, a feature of modern day business is that 'nothing is for certain anymore' meaning that even so called successful companies can go to the wall - almost overnight. So, comfort levels can change very quickly and each time it does the person directly involved often finds themselves re-thinking their options and to work at homegest plenty of attention.

I know, it's happened to me and I didn't see it coming either!

One day I was riding high in a new sole-charge position going about my business throughout the whole of the country when out of the blue I get a telephone call that changed my life forever. Even then I didn't immediately think about choosing to work at home.I felt confident that I could find another job, after all, "I had skills"! I had always been 'a very employable person' and could see no reason why I wouldn't be as lucky as before.

But often in today's circumstances things change all the time - seruptitiously and often go un-noticed until one day, you look up and suddenly become aware that the change has been terminal. There's no way back.

Now this is a hard fact to swallow at anytime. But nothing strikes home more than Job Loss and in the USA in 2008 there's going to be plenty of it - caused by all kinds of reasons. Oh sure, there'll be a lot of people who'll think as I did. That "something else will come along, another chance, another opportunity. But for many people it will be a profound turning point in their lives. To these people I say, "Think about Noah - he got a message and prepared himself well for what was coming"!

Can work at home be a saviour? The answer to that depends very much on your attitude and your ability to adapt - because being able to adapt become essential! Twenty plus years ago, we could be forgiven for thinking that the computers were not going to rule our lives but increasingly what do we see? Suddenly EVERYTHING seems to be driven by a computer.

When I was a kid in England, I hadn't even heard of a computer unitl I was in my teens.
Fast forward twenty years and I recall a very important message being delivered by the CEO of our company one day. That message came from an entrepreneur, an astute businessman - from whom I learned much in the ensuing 15 years. The message was that "The company was aiming to computerise the management processes wherever possible and as senior staff members we should decide to move with the times or face an uncertain future".

I have never forgot that day. It made a huge impact on me because soon afterwards I went out and purchased a computer "For my kids to play with". But secretly I had taken the message to heart - not for the purpose or intention to work at home but to do my best to stay a head of the game and remain employed!

I am revealing this information for a reason. If you haven't thought of choosing towork at home - I strongly suggest that you do so!

Where to start? Well there's many possible answers to that but from my experience I would recommend FOUR key courses of action:

Avoid jumping into 'get rich quick' schemes - they're too plentiful once you learn how to boot up your computer and go online. You'll be inundated with them and they'll suck up your cash real quick - with nothing in return.

Work from home

Work From Home: Benefits http://ultimate.org

For years, I've been fortunate enough to work from home. This became a necessity at a point when I needed to care for my mother, and now once again as my employment is as a full-time, live-in caregiver. I am able to supplement my salary as a caregiver by working from home, and because of the tremendous tax benefits from having my own home-based business, I can shelter my primary income due to many write-offs that I wouldn't have otherwise if I worked outside the home.

As I always say, I have a 30-second commute in the morning to the kitchen to put on the coffee, and if I choose to do so, I can work in my pajamas … no alarm clock, no having to get up 1-2 hours early to make sure I can get ready and be to work on time, no fighting traffic nor having to pay those high prices at the gas pumps, no contributing to pollution or global warming, NO BOSS telling me what to do, no having to punch a time clock, no having to cram in doing chores and necessities of life on my lunch hours, before or after work or on my days off … been there and done that for many years and I really resented feeling like my family had to take a back seat to my employment and the many hours each day and week that I was actually away from my home and family due to my work schedule. There were times when I was working sometimes as many as 80 hours a week plus commute … this left very little time for anything else, plus it always seemed that the more I made, the more the government took in taxes. To work from home just makes perfect, logical sense to me.

Working from home, I am now able to set my own schedule, take breaks when I feel like it, take time off when I want to without having to ask permission. I can earn as much or as little as I choose … if I want to earn more, I just do more. Plus, with the business model I've chosen, I am building long-term, residual ongoing income and continual growth, a solid foundation and stability in my business. I can do business anywhere in the world via the telephone or over the internet. When working from home, I can also choose the people I work with versus being stuck in a dead-end, go nowhere job, cooped up in an office sitting side-by-side in a cubicle with someone I am in no way compatible with.

When deciding whether to work from home or the alternative, the choice for me is simple. The personal freedoms with respect to my time and having total control over my financial destiny make this my ONLY choice.

A Green Approach to Pest Control

A Green Approach to Pest Control

By CLARE TRAPASSO Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Detergent water, vacuum cleaners, door sweeps. These simple household products are on the front lines of "green" pest control. Amid a new wave of environmentalism, eco-savvy consumers are realizing they no longer need to rely on traditional pesticides, which may pose health risks, to combat rodents and insects. Environmentally friendly exterminating services, dubbed integrated pest management, are popping up across the nation. The companies, who mostly work with commercial clients, say the demand for their services is on the rise.

"Traditional pest control companies run around spraying pesticides," said Joel Sklar, vice president of sales at Assured Environments, a New York integrated pest management company. "We're using glue traps to find out where there are animals and pests ... and we seal holes and areas to prevent them from getting in." Instead of using chemicals, eco-warriors investigate how and why pests infiltrate a building. Then they rely on detergent water, vacuum cleaners and low or no-toxicity products to fight the problem.

"Probably the best product out there is a door sweep," said Tom Green, president of the Integrated Pest Management Institute North America, Inc., in Wisconsin, referring to the vinyl strips installed on the bottoms of doors. The institute certifies green exterminating companies. "A mouse can squeeze through a hole the size of a pencil diameter. So if you've got a quarter-inch gap underneath your door, as far as a mouse is concerned, there's no door there at all."

About two-thirds of the 378 exterminating companies that responded to a survey by Pest Control Technology magazine last year, claimed to offer some sort of integrated pest management services. "It's a better approach to pest control for the health of the home, the environment and the family," said Cindy Mannes, a spokeswoman for the National Pest Management Association, the trade organization of the $6.3 billion exterminating industry. But most consumers are not aware these services even exist, said Mannes. She cautioned that each of the approximately 18,000 U.S. pest control companies may define IPM services differently. And a typical $75 exterminator's visit to a four-bedroom home can cost clients 10 to 20 percent more if they choose greener IPM services, which are more labor intensive, according to Sklar.

Green pest control products are also in demand. "Natural pest controls are the fastest growing part of our business," said Eric Vinje, owner of Planet Natural, an online and catalog-based organic gardening supply business based in Montana. "A lot of the ingredients in these products are everyday ingredients, like mint oil or orange peel." His most popular products include Orange Guard, which suffocates insects, and Diatomaceous Earth, made from skeletal remains of plants that can cut through insects' protective shells and kill them. He also recommended boric acid-based products, like Terra Ant Killer. "It acts as a stomach poison to insects," Vinje said. But "for us, it's about as toxic as table salt."

Vinje also provides clients with more unusual solutions. Last October, for instance, his company sent more than 720,000 ladybugs to two Manhattan apartment complexes where the landscaping was being decimated by aphids and mites. The red-and-black bugs were unleashed on the 80-acre grounds to eat the pests. "We were looking for different ways for the property to be a little greener," said Glenn Mahoney, senior director of the properties. "It's been very effective. We're happy with the results."

Research has shown that cockroach and rodent infestations can pose health risks, with children who live in poorly maintained, low-income housing particularly susceptible. "Their airways and lungs are still developing," said Anhthu Hoang, a former biologist and general counsel at We Act for Environmental Justice, an environmental justice organization in West Harlem. "They tend to be lower on the ground." Hoang gave some examples of the health risks: Roach wings and excrement "dry up and create an asthma trigger" when they get into the air, and chemicals and sprays can sometimes exacerbate the problem.

Green, whose organization certifies green exterminating companies, says there are always going to be situations where a pesticide is needed. But he also believes the demand for natural pest management services and products is growing. "The pesticide manufacturing industry has really worked hard over the last 10 years to bring new products to market that are much less toxic," he said. "We're making a lot of progress."

Pest Control - Carpenter Ants

Pest Control - Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants get their name because they excavate wood in order to build their nests. Their excavation results in smooth tunnels inside the wood. Carpenter ants range in size from one-quarter inch for a worker ant to up to three-quarters inch for a queen.

Habits

All species mainly attack wood that is or has been wet and damaged by mold. Even though these ants first invade wet, decayed wood, they may soon begin building paths through dry, undamaged wood. They usually come into buildings through cracks around doors, windows, or through holes for wires. They will also crawl along overhead wires, shrubs, or tree limbs that touch the building far above the ground. Habitat

Carpenter ants build their nests outdoors in various wood sources, including tree stumps, firewood or landscaping. They need a constant water source to survive. They will enter homes through wet, damaged wood.

Threats

Carpenter ants damage wood through their nest building. If they gain entry to a structure, they pose a property threat.

Pest Control Specialist Suggest:

Because carpenter ants require a water source, eliminate sources of moisture or standing water.
Keep tree branches and other plants cut back from the house. Sometimes pests use these branches to get into your home.
Make sure that there are no cracks or little openings around the bottom of your house. Sometimes pests use these to get into your home.
Make sure that firewood and building materials are not stored next to your home. Pests like to build nests in stacks of wood.

Lady Bug Pest Service, Pest Control

Lady Bug Pest Service - Pest Control

Pest control is better thought of as pest prevention. Any pest control company will tell you that the best way to get rid of pests in your house it to not let them get a foothold in the first place. While contacting a pest control company is a must if you find you already have an infestation, taking simple preventative steps like putting screens over chimneys, vents and nooks too keep out birds, squirrels and other unwanted critters, and keeping mulch and earth away from your house's siding and wood to prevent termite and ant infestation, will help keep calls to a pest control company to a minimum from the outset.

Per Wikipedia

"Pest control refers to the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, usually because it is perceived to be detrimental to a person's health, the ecology or the economy.

Pest control is at least as old as agriculture[citation needed]. In order to maximize food production, it is advantageous to protect crops from competing species of plants, as well as from herbivores competing with humans.

The conventional approach was probably the first to be employed, since it is comparatively easy to destroy weeds by burning them or plowing them under, and to kill larger competing herbivores, such as crows and other birds eating seeds. Techniques such as crop rotation, companion planting (also known as intercropping or mixed cropping), and the selective breeding of pest-resistant cultivars have a long history."....

Let profesional take care for you house.
